The HNLC is waiting official communication from Govt on the appointment of interlocutors

Shillong, March 13: The General Secretary cum publicity secretary of the band out fit the HNLC said that their  leadership gratefully acknowledges the  invaluable support from the Government of Meghalaya, Government of India  in appointing an interlocutor to carry forward the proposed peace initiative of the HNLC and the GOM and GOI.

This is a positive step and we hope that the entire process would be taken up by letter and spirit.  At the same time we would like to convey that  they are yet awaiting for an official communication from the GOM with regard to the appointment of interlocutors Bah Peter.S. Dkhar(Retd IAS) and A.K  mishra (MHA) Adviser, Northeast (Retd IPS).

Keeping in mind the various factors that would pave way for a peaceful solution, the HNLC leadership has authorised a representative to meet the interlocutors and simultaneously initiate and form a Hynñiewtrep Peace Committee, whereby stakeholders, Church elders, citizens and NGo’s shall be a part of the committee so as to ensure a smooth functioning of the peace process .

The Hynñiewtrep Peace committee shall facilitate dialogue between stakeholders, Church elders, the HNLC as well as the GOI,GOM. The HPC shall be confined to participate in an initiative to develop a new set of principles, standards and norms that will fundamentally reshape how the peace processes shall be structured, sequenced and actualised.

The council simultaneously appeals to the GOM to instruct the police department to suspend all activities including arresting, raiding and harassing their  cadres and also people  just on mere suspicion of maintaining links with the HNLC.

Unnecessary harassing their cadres would again create a perplexing situation which shall tantamount to derail the entire process. The HNLC said that they need to respect each other’s stand and also maintain a level of sincerity and trust.

Even though they have not declared any kind of ceasefire as yet.  They  are serious and they  have put in all efforts to end all kinds of violent activities as they had emphasised in their  communique for the peace talks.

The HNLC believe that it is high time for them to lay aside their prejudices and biases, to be able to find a common ground for peace to flourish. Now it should be the prerogative of the Government to also do the same. We are ready to stop all kinds of military action so as to enable a peaceful atmosphere.

Bringing peace necessitates resolving conflicts, which is a complex task. Vested interests to derail peace process, decade’s long-standing history of violence, lack of trust as well as communication, all of it together shall make eliminating conflicts difficult.

Once again they are grateful for the support given by the GOM, GOI to achieve peace and reconciliation. It is very important to them as well as the people of our region, the HNLC said that let us Get Involved to a new path towards lasting peace, said Mr. Sainkupar Nongtraw general secretary cum publicity secretary of the HNLC.
