The HYC of WKH District submit memorandum to Education Minister for luck of infrastructure

Shillong, Oct 27: The Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) of West Khasi Hills District let by its president Mr . Lumlang Kharsyiemlih accompanied by it central body President Mr. Roykupar Synrem today met the education minister Mr. Rakkam A Sangma and submit memorandum for luck of infrastructure in school in the District.

In the memorandum submitted to the education minister, the organsisation has pointed out  that, there are around 90 Government L.P. Schools in the District with the students strength of about 50 to 100 or more in each School.

In every such School the Government have appointed either 1 or 2 teachers for teaching the students and these teachers have to take classes for students from Nursery upto Class V.

For instances in a School in Athiabari, West Khasi Hills, although it is LP School but the Government have only appointed a Teacher for pre-primary students and the same teacher have to also take classes for students in the whole school.

The non-availability of teachers as per student-teacher ratio has immensely affected the education sector in the whole District and is a grave injustice cause to the students enrolled in these schools. The organisation urged the minister to kindly take appropriate and immediate steps to appoint qualified teachers in all these schools in the District immediately and as per norms in place.

There are about 4 numbers of Government Upper Primary Schools in the District but the teachers appointed in these Schools are not as per the requirements and as such it creates unnecessary pressure and workloads on the existing teachers as well as the schools are not able to provide the best of education to the students. We urged upon you to kindly take necessary steps to look into this matter and appoint qualified teachers at the earliest.

Almost all the existing Government school buildings are in a dilapidated conditions and required immediate and urgent interventions for repair and other works. If left unattended, majority of these schools will not be able to cater to the students in the coming session.

The Schools required furniture and other materials for the majority of the Schools in the District have not been provided as per the requirements. In all these schools especially LP Schools, students have to sit in a very uncomfortable position as they have to packed themselves in each bench due to non-availability of proper furniture’s.

Although the Higher Secondary Sections of Sib Sing Memorial Govt School was opened since the year 1995 in Nongstoin, however the teachers appointed in the Higher Secondary Section for Arts and Science are not as per the requirements. For instance, no teacher is appointed for the Mathematics subject and other important Arts Subject till date.

There are about 6 teachers appointed on Contractual basis and no steps have been taken to appoint permanent teachers. This has greatly affected the students. As such, it is urged upon the Government to take steps to immediately appoint permanent teachers for all subjects in the Higher Secondary Section in Sib Sing school.

In the Memorandum the organisation pointed out that the new Building of the School was formally opened on 17.01.2023 by the  Chief Minister of the State but sadly the said building does not have proper electricity connections or provided with any furnitures.

As such the said building is left unused till date. As such, we request you to kindly intervene and take appropriate steps in this matter, the Government should provide necessary assistance towards the development of the ground used for assembly of the students as the same is causing great difficulties for students during rainy seasons.

Till date the District School Education Officer does not have a permanent Building and is making used of the Hall in the office of the SDSEO for official purposes.

It is also requested that the existing Building of SDSEO, which is about 48 years old, be constructed with a new one so that these offices which deals with the education sector in the District are able to provide the best services to the District as a whole.
