Shillong, June 23: The Protection Cell of the Khasi Students’ Union Central Executive Council today had lodge a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District alleging that plastic rice was found in the Tripal Five Rice brand in the wholesale market at Stand Jeep and Iewduh.
In the letter sent to the DC request to seized and confiscate the rice packets of TRIPAL FIVE RICE brand from selling into the market at Jeep Stand and Iewduh by various wholesalers.
As mention above the Consumers’ and Farmers Protection Cell of the Khasi Students’ Union Central Executive Council would like to inform to your esteemed office on the complaints from the general public and various associations regarding the contains of plastic rice within the normal rice packets of the aforementioned brand named Tripal Five Rice.
After rounds of inspection from the Cell, it is evident that the particular rice brand is available at a larger stocks in various wholesalers shops and it is only after the inspection from the union, many of the wholesalers in the market have admit that the rice is not fit for consumption and to sell it to the general public thereafter.
To ensure that no such untoward incidents will happen to the public health from consumption of such products and simultaneously as rice falls under the essential commodity category and a staple food for the majority populace.
The Cell would like to urged your esteemed office to act upon this urgent matter at the earliest and to make aware and alarm the general public about such products that is available at the market for the betterment of the consumers.
It was informed by one of the Jeep Stand wholesalers (Triveni Store) to the union that the mill which supplies the rice products TRIPAL FIVE RICE (Yellow packets- 555 RICE) is coming from Purana Bazaar, Tokuhu Marketting, Dimapur and thus, the Cell once-again urged upon your esteemed further investigate into this matter.
