Shillong, December 30: The lone NCP, MDC from Laban-Mawprem constituency Mr Ricky Shullai today sent the letter of support to the People Democratic Front (PDF) Executive committee led by Mr PN Syiem in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) who suspended from the Congress Party.
With the support of the NCP, MDC the strength of the members in the ruling has gone up to 23 in the house of 29 members. The PDF coalition has the support of KHNAM, UDP, HSPDP and now NCP.
Mr Sanbor Shullai, state president of the NCP Meghalaya state unit met Syiem at the official residence to hand the letter of support to the PDF. The letter stated, that the “NCP, Meghalaya, after considering all the facts on all the issues taken up by the PDF to protect and safeguard the interest of the people like MUDA issue and other important issue has decided to support the PDF coalition EC and the our MDC, Mr Ricky Shullai will now be a member of the PDF coalition.”
Speaking to reporters, Mr PN Syiem said that with their support, more issues pertaining for the betterment of the state will be taken up and has accepted their move to join the coalition. With the NCP MDC supporting the PDF the number has gone up to 23.
Mr Shullai spoke of burning issues which included the encroachment of MUDA to scheduled areas which led to KHADC framing its own building bye-laws. He added that the matter relating to the Village Administration Bill (VAB) will be pursued. It may be noted that last Friday HSPDP extended support to the PDF adding an advantage to PDF that is already backed by KHNAM and UDP.
