Shillong, December 16: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) Central Body at a general meeting held at Khasi National Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar on Friday unanimously decided to accept the order released by the state government to enhance the salary of SSA teachers.
According to the order trained SSA teachers who meet the criteria as per the Right to Education (RTE) Act and the National Council for Teacher’s Education (NCTE) norms their salary will be enhanced from Rs. 9, 200 to Rs. 19, 440 for Lower Primary (LP) and for Upper Primary (UP) teachers form Rs. 9, 900 to Rs. 20, 493.
However untrained SSA teachers who have yet to complete their training as per the norms, their salary will be increased from Rs. 9, 200 to 13, 335 for Lower Primary (LP) and Upper Primary teachers from Rs. 9, 900 to Rs 14, 943.
Addressing reporters, Aristotle C Rymbai president MSSASA-Central Body said, “We have agreed to accept the order issued by the Commissioner Secretary Education DP Wahlang, however most of the teachers are saddened by the classification of teachers as trained and untrained.”
The MSSASA has also demanded that the government should revise the salary of untrained SSA teachers of both LP and UP teachers by earlier next year.
“We want the salary of the untrained teachers from both UP and LP to be revised as around 85 percent of them is untrained teachers and they have already rendered their service for more than 10 years,” he said.
The SSA association demands that the untrained teacher’s salary should be revised to Rs. 18, 000 and Rs. 19, 000 from the current revised salary of Rs. 13, 335 and Rs 14, 943 for both UP and LP teacher, at the next Project Approval Board.
Stating that in Garo hills only around 10 percent consist of trained teachers, he said, “We had earlier apprise the Minister in-charge that around 90 percent of teachers are untrained due to the fact that they did not have a chance to undergo training.”
