The PHE department blame traffic congestion for slow progress of work of the GSWSS phase III

Shillong, July 13:  The Public Health Engineering department government of Meghalaya has put blame on the traffic congestion in the capital, Shillong for the slow progress of work of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Schemes Phase III that will cater to the residence of greater Shillong.

The work for laying of pipes in various location in the city has been slow due to the traffic congestion sources from the PHE department told SP News Agency. The road was so narrow that contractors cannot execute their work at the normal working hours. The work mostly executed after school hours.

The PHE department is trying it’s level best to complete the project with thin the amount sanction of Rs. 196 cores by the Government of India. The department will try to complete the project as per the death line which is fixed by the end of March 2015.

According to the GSWSS phase III, it was design to provide water to more than five lakh population of the Shillong City including Mawlai area. When these project is completed the PHE will be able to supply 135 litters of water per head per day. Phase I and Phase II can only provide drinking water only 85 litters per head per day.(SP News)
