Tura, August 03: The Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) on Tuesday reiterated its demand for immediate repairing of National Highway – 51 and 62, which is in deplorable state of affairs. The organisation has urged the government to begin with repair of potholes, which makes travel difficult. They said that the recent repair of potholes from Gasuapara to Mangkenggre in South Garo Hills was very “poor” and the damages were visible once again.
The organisation has also appealed to the government to promote and market South Garo Hills as “tourism destination”. In a release, they stated that the renowned pitcher plant sanctuary fails to grab attention of visitors.
Detailing on the lack of promotion and marketing of tourism in the district, ADE said, “The Anaconda boat, which were sanctioned for Simsang River has been kept for the past several years without any use. We want tourism department to promote tourism in the district and put to use different infrastructure, which has been kept unused”.
They also castigated legislator of Baghmara Samuel Sangma for his failure to bring about development in the district headquarter of South Garo Hills. “He Samuel Sangma is always busy in Shillong and fails to even visit or attend official programmes in Baghmara”. Alleged ADE.
Hitting out at the legislator, ADE also stated that the welfare schemes are disbursed in the ration of 80:20 for Gasuapara and Baghmara, which were uncalled for. “How can a legislator be so partial and arrogant keeping in mind the general development?”, the organisation questioned.
