The SCSTE organized a one day YFP lecture series on “Biodiversity” and “Mineral Resources”

Shillong, March 31: The State Council of Science, Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya organized a one day Youth Forum programme – lecture series on “Biodiversity” and “Mineral Resources” with relevance to the state of Meghalaya.

The programme was held  on the 30th March 2023 at Shillong College, Shillong in collaboration with Department of Botany and Department of Zoology, Shillong College, Shillong and supported by Himalayan Knowledge Network Programme, G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, Almora, Uttarakhand.

Dr. (Mrs.) E Kharkongor, Principal, Shillong College graced the occasion as the Chief Guest where she encouraged the youth representatives from colleges and university to take up issues with regards to the environment and bring forth solutions.

Dr. D. R. Wahlang, Programme Officer, SCSTE, gave a brief preview of the Youth Forum to the audience and as part of the programme, lectures on the thematic areas were delivered by Prof. D. Walia, Department of Geology, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, Dr. C. Deori, Scientist ‘E’, Botanical Survey of India, Shillong and Dr. B. Sinha, Scientist ‘E’, Zoological Survey of India, Shillong.

A special lecture was also given by Prof. A. Fryar, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Kentucky, USA and Fullbright – Kalam Climate Fellow, NEHU, Shillong.

The lecture series was followed by an interactive session and expert panel discussion where the students interacted with the experts as well as officials of SCSTE and Shillong College. The programme was attended by teachers, students and research scholars from Shillong College, St. Anthony’s College and NEHU.
