To ease the effects of demonetisation, “Coin Mela” will be held in Jowai

Jowai, December 06: To ease the effects of demonetisation, the office of the Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with SBI and UBI is holding “Coin Mela” on the market day in Jowai on the  12th December 2016 in the premises of DC office Jowai from 10am.

The 12th is a state holiday, in spite of that SBI and UBI have graciously agreed to do it. Anybody who needs change of Rs 10, Rs 5, Rs 2 and Re 1 can obtain from the counters set up on that day by giving new denomination of Rs 500, Rs 2000 and old denomination of Rs 100. RBI gives the coins in a pouch of 2000 Rs value.

It will to be sorted out in smaller pouches of 100 Rs value. So the minimum you can exchange is 100 Rs. Limited numbers of lower denomination notes like Rs 50, Rs 20 and Rs 10 will also be kept, but they will be rationed per person depending on the need.

However there is no restriction on coins. You can take as many coins as possible. Just to reiterate there are no fake coins whatsoever. RBI has clarified on this matter. 10 Rs coins of all designs are legal tenders.

There is sufficient stock of coins available with the banks and in the district. Shopkeepers giving chocolates, toffees,pepper mints in the name of change will be viewed seriously.
