Shillong, June 11: Two Days Seminar on Mauy Thai Mauy Boran Martial Arts came to an end on the 10th June 2017 at Laitumkhrah Shillong – Happy Red Rooster MMA Dojo. Seminar of the first of its kind to be conducted in Meghalaya was conducted by Mr Kru Prasenjit Singha, President Mauy Boran Association of India (MBAI) in collaboration with Meghalaya Mauythai Mauyboran Association. Mauythai is one of the major components martial arts tactics now for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Fights besides Brazilian Jiu Jujitsu (BJJ) Styles and is being played as sports now in the stand up only ring sports.
North East being considered as having natural talents in martial arts, such seminar will boost the morale and creates a sense of enthusiasm amongst youngsters to take up mixed martial arts to a higher heights and standard. Besides the Seminar, Grade Test (Belt Test) and Referee Clinic were carried out for a workforce of 30 young athletes of Meghalaya and Silchar too. Last year 25th – 27th November 2016 at the 2nd WMBF – MBAI Indian National Muay Boran Championship & 1st Pro-AM National Muay Thai title Belt Championship 2016 at Radiant English Academy, Piplod & VR Mall, Surat, Gujarat, out of six participants from the State, four young Mauythai athletes from Meghalaya have brought laurels for the State with 3 gold medals and one silver medal.
Mr Mauy Thai Mauy Boran is being referred to as “The Arts of Eight Limbs” and using eight points of contact the body mimics weapons of war. The hand become the sword and dagger, the shins and forearms were hardened in training to act as armor against blows, and the elbow to fell opponents like a heavy mace or hammer, the legs and knees became the axe and staff. The body operated as one unit. The knees and the elbows constantly searching and testing for an opening while grappling and trying to spin in enemy to the ground for the kill.
Mr Muay Boran was originally developed for self defense and also taught to the Thai Military for use on warfare. Muay Boran originally is a martial art system which also has deadly techniques, grappling techniques and ground fighting techniques apart from its stand up techniques and is different from the modern day Mauy Thai which is stand up only ring sport.
