Shillong, February 20: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) claim that the organisation was shock to know that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was sign between the Exectuive Committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC and the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) on 12th January 2006 during the EC of Hispreaching Son Shylla.
In the press statement issued today sign by the president of the KSU Mr Lambok S Marngar and the General Secretary Mr Donald V Thabah, said that the organization will always opposed to Uranium mining the KSU opposed to the MoU sing between the KHADC and the UCIL in 2006. The stand of the Organization is very clear on Uranium issued.
The KSU alleged that the Former CEM and the present sitting MDC Mr Shylla he has try his best in collusion with the UCIL to mine Uranium in West Khasi Hills District by constructing the road, as the claim made by the former CEM said that it is only for road construction but from the MoU what the organisation have its include also to mine Uranium in the area.
The KSU said that, with the construction of the Road Mr Shylla has permitted the UCIL to mine Uranium in West Khasi Hills District, but with the strong opposition from the KSU the objective could not be carried out, the KSU blame that Mr Shylla has no responsibility for the community.
The KSU has sent a strong message that, what may come the organisation will not allowed Uranium mining to occurred in any place in the Khasi Hills area, this press statement was sent today to the media houses by the president and the General Secretary of the Khasi Student Union, Mr Lambok S. Marngar president and Mr Donald V Thabah General secretary.
