Why Govt of Meghalaya could not release the money sanctioned for person with disabilities

Shillong, February 07: The State President, BJYM Meghalaya Mr Egenstar Kurkalang question the state Government,  why the state Government of Meghalaya could not release the money and entitlements sanctioned for person with disabilities as per the provision of the Right of person with Disability Act,in the state of Meghalaya as per 2011 census there are 44,317 disable person in the state.

We have received a complaints and reports from Disabled person regarding this which the Government keep on pending since 2015 till date, for the following scheme: Unemployment Honorarium to disable person who completed matriculation which is Rs. 12,000 annually per beneficiary.

Scholarship for student from class-I upto Graduate level starting from Rs. 3000 /-  – Rs. 9000 /- annually the amount is difficult for different classes.  Chief Minister pension scheme for disable person which is pending since June 2016 which is supposed to release quarterly.

Housing Scheme of which we received the report that most of the Block Office did not comply or follow the guideline of the IAY/PMAY for allotment housing scheme to disable person, recently Shri. Kelvin Suting was refused by the Office of BDO Amlarem and also in Pynursla Block the BDO office asking for NREGS jobcard in order to avail this which is not required or ask for by other Blocks Office.

The Government also fails to comply or follows the provision of 3 % Job Quota as per  Right of Person with Disability Act, 1995 and which is recently increase  by parliament to 4% with the  New Bill passed by parliament the Right of Person with Disability Bill, 2016.

We also get complaint that some educational institutions in the state declined to give them   admission in Schools and Colleges for furthers studies. Which ultimately force them to approach to their leaders of Disable person to get admitted.

Therefore if this is the case it seems that the Government were neglected to them which they deprived to enjoy their rights and entitlement as ensured by Law.thus we will follow up this matter to make the government to release all this dues to them within short time if the government fails to comply  with we will move another step of action against the government. Said  Egenstar Kurkalang, State President, BJYM Meghalaya.
