World Day against Child Labour being observed by Shishu Shiksha Ghar

 

Shillong, June 13: This year World Day Against Child Labour drew attention to the role of social protection in keeping children out of child labour and removing them from it.

To commemorate the Day, SSG has been  organizing different activities every year as well as making efforts throughout the year to eliminate child labour and ensure the rights of every child.

Following the theme, SSG made efforts to observe the Day  with an understanding that the World Day against Child Labour provides an opportunity to gain further support of individual, Governments and civil society and others, including schools, youth and women’s groups as well as the media, in the campaign against child labour.

This year too a series of activities such as Community awareness programme, School sensitization programme, Signature Campaign was carried out with an objective to prohibit and eliminate child labour and ensure children’s right to survival and development in all aspects of their lives, including the physical, emotional, psycho-social, cognitive, social and cultural.

They also aimed  towards Protection and Development of Children and bringing about a Positive change in their lives which infact will be the Real Social Change in this Globalized Era. We believe in “Making Education a Reality for Every Child”.

Sensitization programme followed by film screening on Child Labour was carried out at Martin Luther Christian University, Gorkha Pathshalaya Higher Secondary School, Arya Vidhyalay High School and other educational institutions where the Administrative Head and Principal of SSG Ms. Shima Modak acquainted the students about child labour and their life situation as well as the force factor behind children being employed at this tender age. She also highlighted on the issue of Human trafficking stressing the fact that child labour being one of the causes for  children being trafficked.

Ms. Modak further made the students acknowledge their role and responsibilities as young leaders to participate in combating Child Labour and play effective role towards social development. More than 200 students signed the campaign against Child Labour and committed themselves to work for the betterment of the less fortunate children and their welfare.

Besides Signature Campaign was also carried out at different localities and areas in Shillong and Ri-Bhoi District where more than 1300 people from different walks of lives joined the  initiative to Fight against Child Labour.

Shishu Shiksha Ghar (SSG) is thankful to the Labour Department, Government of Meghalaya  for joining hands and providing child labour pamphlets in Hindi, Khasi,  and English language which facilitated the awareness programme as it was distributed to all for their reference and further understanding on Child Labour Act.
