Shillong, July 26: The 2nd East Khasi Hills District Open Badminton Championship 2016 was held on the f 20th to 23rd of this month at U Tirot Sing Syiem Indoor Stadium Lower Lachumiere, Shillong.
The tournament had generated immense enthusiasm among the players of the East Khasi Hills District with a total of 180 participants of different age categories. The intention of the tournament is to encourage budding and new talents into the sport of badminton.
Participants are classified into the following age categories as Under 13 Years ( boys and girls) – Singles and doubles, Under 15 years ( boys and girls) – Singles and doubles, Under 17 Years ( boys and girls) – Singles and doubles, Under 19 Years (boys and girls) – Singles and doubles, Seniors (Men & Women) – Singles and doubles, Mixed Doubles.
Out of the total number 180, the boys are 84, and the girls are 49, and the senior in men and women are 47 who participate in the tournament.
Total number of matches of the tournament conducted for 4 days from 20th to 23rd July 2016 was 191 matches.Mr F. Kharkongor, IAS, Commissioner of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya graced the closing function as Chief Guest.
The winner of the tournament in the different categories are, U- 17 Girls (single) Runners Up Deepa Yadav Winners Surbhi Gupta, U- 17 Girls (Doubles) Runners UP Surbhi Gupta and Ashima Kanwar, Winner are Monalisa Khasain and Tanvi Ikbal, U- 17 Boys (single) Runners UP , Ritu Raj Nag, Winner Andrew Lotzem, U- 17 Boys (Doubles)Runners UP,Ngazip Worchan Ronra Shimray and Sandi.T Kharsyntiew and the Winners,Rival Nongtdu and Clebirth .s. Marak.
