Meghalaya Speaker Mr. Metbah laid the foundation for Greater Mairang Water Supply Scheme 

Mairang, Jan 05: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh today laid the foundation stone of the Greater Mairang Water Supply Scheme (GMWSS) under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) at a function organized by the PHE Department, Government of Meghalaya at Tirot Sing Memorial Hall Pyndengumiong, Mairang.

Also present at the programme were Meghalaya Minister in charge, PHE Department, Shri Renikton L Tongkhar , Commissioner and  Secretary, PHE Department, Government  of Meghalaya, Shri S. M.A Razi.

The Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw   Pa’iem P.M Syiemlieh, Deputy Commissioner, Eastern West Khasi Hills District,  Shri W. Nongsiej, Superintendent of Police of the District,  Shri M. B Syiem, Chief Engineer, PHE, Meghalaya, Smti. Badarisha M. Lyndem, other government officials of the district, traditional heads and people of the area.

Delivering his address as Chief Guest, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh thanked the PHE Minister, Shri Renikton L Tongkhar and officials of the PHE Department for the successful sanctioning of the scheme.

The minister  also appeal to concerned stakeholders including traditional heads, community leaders and citizens of Greater Mairang area to actively support the PHE Department during the implementation of the scheme which is due to commence soon.

Shri Lyngdoh in his speech stressed on the importance of water in day to day life while also calling on citizens present at the programme to make judicious use of water and water sources which forms part of the water conservation process.

Stating that the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is time bound with the mission scheduled to end in the year 2024, the Speaker expressed hope that with the right support and cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, the scheme, once implemented, would be completed as per the scheduled time frame.

It may be mentioned that the Greater Mairang Water Supply, estimated to cost approximately 118 crores, is set to benefit 4611 households of 10 villages under Greater Mairang area including Pyndengumiong A, Pyndengumiong B, Mairang Mission, Mairangbah, Lumsohkhlur,  Mawlong,  Sangshong, Madan Bynther, Umthied Bynther and Nongbah Bynther. Others who stand to benefit from this scheme include educational institutions, wellness centres, anganwadi centres and community halls of Greater Mairang area.
