The NESO demanded for the unconditional release of Mr Thokchom adviser of MSAD 

Shillong, Feb 16: The North East Student’s Organisation (NESO) strongly condemns the arrest of the advisor of Manipur Student’s Association Delhi (MSAD) Mr Thokchom Veewon on Friday from his rented house in Saket of South Delhi during a joint operation of Manipur and Delhi Police.

Mr Veewon is the former president of Manipur Student’s Association Delhi; the police pick him up on sedition charges. The former student leader has been vocal against the arrest of Manipur Journalist Mr Kishore Chandra Wangkhem who was arrested under National Security Act (NSA) and the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and led the protest in the national Capital New Delhi.

The NESO condemn the arrest of Mr Veewon, in the press statement the student organisation from the North Eastern state said that, Mr Veewon was arrested without providing any reason and arrest warrant. It was allege that it was very undemocratic the way police assaulted him, they beat him, slap, dragged him and even they don allowed him to were sleepers while picking him up from his residence.

The NESO also claim that the police not only arrested him, they even taken him laptop and mobile phone, earlier it was reported that the Manipur Police searched his home in Manipur and threaten his family not to engaged in the agitation. Currently he is kept in Janakpuri Police Station and he will ba taken back to Manipur.

There is a speculation that the Cyber’s Crime is behind the arrested of the Advisor of Manipur Student’s Association. Two days before his arrest Mr Veewon write in his facebook post said that   police team comprising from both Imphal West and East District arrived at his house in Lamlaimayai Leikai of Imphal around 6.00 Pm, threaten his parents, searched hi room, took pictures of his parents, and told them to asked him to concentrate on his education, stated in the press statement sent to the media houses by NESO.

The NESO stands in solidarity with him and demanded from the government to stop gagging the dissent voices of students. The fascist like nature of the BJP Government with its autocratic nature will not be tolerated as it is a big tread to democracy. The student body of the North East demand his immediate unconditional release otherwise NESO will not remain silence on the issue, said Mr Samuel Jyrwa Chairman and Mr Sinam Prakash Singh secretary general of NESO.
