Shillong, June 14: The government of Meghalaya has promptly clarified the allegation made by the National People’s Party (NPP) that there is a scam in the procurement of sugar from the open market that was distributed to the consumers through fair price shop dealer.
In the press statement issued by the government sign by the principal secretary food civil supplies and consumer affair Mr PW Ingty said that, The attention of the government has been drawn to a press statement allegedly made by the NPP that there is a scam on the process of procuring sugar in the state of Meghalaya by awarding the tender at the high price that is beyond the open market price .
From the government side clarify that sugar is provided to PDS beneficiaries through the fair price shop in hygienically packed 1Kg poly bag, with the state logo, at the rate of Rs.20/- per kg which is below the open market price of sugar
. A transparence system of procuring sugar from the open Market through e-tendering is being followed in the state, where the tender is allotted to the lowest successful bidder who has fulfill all requirements in the tender document, PW Ingty principal secretary food civil supplies and consumer affair government of Meghalaya.
