Sources said that the traders were released after paying a ransom of Rs 7 lakh to the abductors.

South Garo Hills SP, Anand Mishra said that the abductors released the traders at a place near Silkigre village.

“We only came to know that the traders have been released by the abductors early in morning. However we could not meet or interrogate them, because they have left after they were released,” Mishra said.

The traders all hailed from Mankachar town in Assam’s South Salmara district. They have been kidnapped on September 29 when they were on their way to Silkigre weekly market, which is around 14 km from Chokpot town. The traders were travelling in a three pick-up vans when a group of suspected GNLA militants armed with rifles and pistols stopped the last vehicle near Songotagre village around 5.30am that day.
