Shillong, September 20: The All Meghalaya Dancers Association (AMDA) will be organising a talent hunt contest christened as West Khasi Hill Got Talent on September 24, 2016 and later on September 26 at Mairang. The Association aims at holding the talent contest in the entire district of Khasi and Jaintia Hills before the popular reality TV show India Got Talent kicks off on February or March next year.
“15 contestants from each district will be selected to take part in Meghalaya Who Got Talent which is scheduled to take place on January 2017, however only the top 3 finishers from different district will be handed an automatic qualification but the remaining 12 contestant have to go through the audition rounds,” President of AMDA Kit Thabah told reporters in a press briefing here on Tuesday.
He informed that those contestants qualified for the Meghalaya Who Got Talent their videos will be sent to India Got Talent. The association had also conducted the Ri Bhoi Got Talent on September 17, 2016.
When asked if the association is planning to organise a similar talent hunt contest in Garo Hills, he said, “If the local legislators from Garo Hills invite us to organise such contest in their respective constituencies we are more than happy to comply however as of right now our budget is very less to venture into Garo Hills.”
Stating that the association has been holding such talent hunt contest in the state for the past several years to promote the local youths however the government has still turned a blind eye, he said, “The government should have instead invested the money amounting to more than Rs. 2 crores towards the film Rock On!!, in promoting the talents of the local youths of the state.”
The association informed that the prize money for winners of the district level contest will bag home Rs. 30, 000 while the winner of the Meghalaya Got Who Talent will take home a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
