Shillong, November 05: The Assam Regiment is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee.a ‘Motor Cycle Expedition’ is being conducted from 15 Nov to 18 Nov 2016 to pay homage to martyrs of the regiment, who made Supreme Sacrifice during World War II, and in last 75 Glorious years.
The expedition team alongwith veterans of regiment will lay wreath at various War Memorials of Assam Regiment at Kohima, Aradura, Jessami and Imphal and will pay homage to martyrs, the expedition will also pay respect to the veterans of the regiment enroute.
The expedition will also conduct a campaign titled “Join the Indian Army” at schools and colleges at Jessami and Ukhrul to encourage the youths to join Indian Army. The expedition team consist of one officer and seventeen soldiers of the Assam Regiment.
The motorcycle for the expedition is sponsored by the Hero Motor Corp Ltd. The expedition was flagged off by Lt Col Martin Khongmen (Retd), the oldest and fittest veterans of the Regiment along with Brig SK Jha, YSM, Commandant Assam Regimental Centre on 05 Nov 2016.
The Motor Cycle Expedition will be ‘flagged in’ on 17 Nov 2016 at Assam Regimental Centre after travelling a distance of 1700Kms and enroute crossing the township of Dimapur, Kohima, Jessami, Ukhrul, Imphal and back to Shillong.
