Big Match, Shillong Lajong To Host Mohun Bagan on Wednesday in the I-league

Shillong 10 April: After a fantastic outing in Pune, the young Shillong Lajong brigade will get ready to play host to former I-League champions Mohun Bagan AC on 12th April at the JN Stadium, Shillong, at 4:30PM.

The Reds got the result they were looking for as they pulled off a sensational 3-2 victory over DSK Shivajians at the Balewadi Stadium on Saturday night. It was a joyous moment for the young Lajong I-League squad as three youngsters from the Academy, namely Isaac Vanmalsawma, Samuela Lalmuanpuia and Redeem Tlang, netted all three goals for their side. With this win, Shillong Lajong remains in the top four with 23 points.

Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan won their I-League derby encounter on Sunday against East Bengal 2-1. Sony Norde and Azharuddin Mallick were the providers for the Mariners and the victory moved Sanjoy Sen’s side to second position with 29 points.

Bagan and Lajong are among the top scoring clubs this season with the Reds racking up a total of 21 goals so far while Mohun Bagan have netted 23. Both teams will have very high expectations from this upcoming I-League game and all eyes will be on three points.

In the first leg fixture Mohun Bagan emerged victorious at their home fortress by two goals to nil against Shillong Lajong on 13th January. Since then, however, Thangboi Singto’s side has improved drastically and have had a good campaign in the league, winning as many as 7 matches. The team are buoyant after pulling off a last gasp victory over Shivajians, which also extended their unbeaten streak on the road to 5 matches. The biggest margin of victory for Lajong this season was against Chennai City FC in Chennai where they registered a thumping 4-1 victory.

Shillong Lajong striker Aser Dipanda Dicka still leads the goal scorers list with 9 goals and although the forward was unable to score in the previous game, he is confident to find the back of the net in the next home match on Wednesday as he loves playing at Fortress Lajong and considers Shillong as his new home.
