Dilip Vengsarkar Chairman BCCI’s to visit Shillong

Shillong,May 12: Dilip Vengsarkar, former India captain and current Chairman of BCCI’s National Cricket Academy will be visiting Shillong on 15th and 16th May to oversee and review the ongoing NCA camp for selected Under-19 cricketers of 5 NADP states, being held in the city.

The camp which is managed by Meghalaya Cricket Association is all set to welcome and gain immensely from the visit of Vengsarkar – one of the proud members of the Indian squad that represented the nation in the 1983 World Cup Cricket. Fondly known as “Colonel”, Vengsarkar is known to be one of the best batsmen of his times.

He played in 116 Test matches and scored 6868 runs in them including 17 centuries and 35 half-centuries with an average of 42.13 runs and a highest score of 166 runs. As far as his overall One Day International (ODI) Cricket career is concerned, he played in 129 matches and scored 3508 runs including 1 century and 23 half-centuries with an average of 34.73 runs and a highest score of 105 runs.

Further, he became the Chairman of the Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the year 2006 and was bestowed with the Arjuna Award in the year 1981. Meghalaya Cricket Association is up beat that his visit will generate more enthusiasm among young cricketers and provide added momentum to development of cricket in the state and region. A few cricket related session is being drawn in consultation with the legendary batsman during his visit.
