Ampati, August 25: A review meeting of all the district heads of offices in South West Garo Hills in connection with Disaster Management was convened by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) at Ampati DRDA conference hall on Thursday evening,
Chairing the meeting, Addl. Deputy Commissioner (Revenue & Disaster Management), M.T. Sangma, reminded the responsibilities of the district officers with a stress on coordinated approach in disaster response. As responsible officers, they must report any natural disaster that occur in their respective areas within 24 hours of occurrence, she said.
The meeting discussed the natural calamities, particularly cyclones and floods that occur in the district more frequently and reviewed the actions taken by the concerned department in terms of submitting FIRs and detail reports and the need for every department to prepare Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) which would enable the DDMA to prepare its district disaster management plan accordingly.
The meeting also discussed SDRF and NDRF norms for the period from 2015 to 2020 and reviewed formation of Incident Response System (IRS) team in the district.Later, EAC, R&DM, Ampati, Florina Boro highlighted precautionary measures to be taken during natural disasters like floods and earthquake.
