In a week long army recruitment rally held in Tura 1865 youth participate

Shillong April 7: The Army recruitment rally held at Dikki Bandi Stadium, Dakopgre, Tura from 2nd  to 8th  April, 2017 saw a significant participation of youth from all the 11 districts of the state but mainly from the Garo Hills districts in general and West Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills districts in particular. A total of 2811 youths were registered and 1865 candidates  participated in the gruelling run of 1.6 km and other physical events under inclement weather.

It may be mentioned that the awareness and preparation part of the Army recruitment rally was supported by the district administration under the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance Scheme of the Government of Meghalaya. The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills expressed his satisfaction and happiness that for the third year in a row the Army has made the effort to come down to Tura for this rally which means a lot for the youth of the region as many aspiring candidates cannot afford to take part in the Shillong recruitment rally.

A part of further support to the Army recruitment rally – there shall be a two week residential course in SMELC Dakopgre for all successful students who have qualified for the physical and medical tests and who will now appear for the crucial decider- the written test. This is also an effort under the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance Scheme and will be shortly advertised.

Colonel A K Sinha, Director , Recruiting , Recruiting Office , Shillong showered praise on the young Army aspirants of Garo Hills region and others commending them on their sense of discipline and their commitment. He hoped that about 90-100 should make it to the final list with a little extra effort. In 2015 about 100 and in 2016 about 70 candidates qualified finally for the Army recruitment rallies held in Tura.
