In the last 48 hours the Indian Air Force rescue 343 people at Gangtok on the second day

Shillong, Sept 18: The last 48 hrs total 115 civilians, 216 personnel of Indian Army and 12 personnel of ITBP have been rescued and brought home to their near and dear ones. 22 Tons of life saving relief material has been airlifted to the far flung regions of Sikkim giving a ray of hope and respite to the people of the region.

After the relief and rescue mission in North Gangtok , in which 168 personal and delivered over 16 tons of relief material , IAF was called upon again today for HADR operations  for rescuing the stranded population from N Sikkim .

During the past one week the monsoon activity and incessant rains in north and east Sikkim has intensified. This led to unprecedented havoc in the region. Lines of communication has come to a standstill and daily activity has come to a halt

The operation was conducted under command and control of Air Mshl Rajesh Kumar,  SASO , Eastern Air Command at Shillong.

In today’s mission , IAF deployed two Mi 17 V5 helicopters for relief and rescue and rescued 184 people which included  ITBP personal  including  Civil tourist population and Army PERS from Chugthang Mangan Chhaten to the safety of Gangtok and Bagdogra  . 9 Ton of relief material was delivered.
