Jowai, April 27: Irked by the adamant attitude of the NHAI and the government of Meghalaya, to repair the dilapidated shape of the NH-44 stretch from Soomer to Malidor that creates great havoc to all travelers along the said road, the aggrieved 5 NGO’s from Jaintia Hills that include the SRS-EJH, AJYWO-CGB, KSU-JHDU, HNYF-EJZ bad ka FKJGP-KC, along with the public of East Jaintia Hills District have decided to intensify their agitational programmes by calling a 48-hour total bandh in East Jaintia Hills District this time, which will effect from 5:00AM of the 30th of this month and ends till 5:00AM of the 2nd of the next month.
“We are fighting for the interest of the public and not for any vested interest group. So, since the NHAI and the government of Meghalaya did not listen to our demand to repair the very bad condition of the NH 44 from Soomer to Malidor, we are bound to intensify our agitations this time by calling this 48-hour total bandh in EJHD, which will perhaps hit the deaf ears of the concerned authorities,” said the leaders of the 5 NGO’s in a press statement.
The leaders of the 5-NGO informs that only ambulances and mortuary vans and vehicles of the medias shall be allowed to ply on the roads while others are appealed to support the bandh. They are also appealed to stay off the road to avoid any untoward incidents that may be carried on by opportunists during the hours of the bandh.
It was also informed by the leaders of the 5-NGO that it would not take any responsibility if any untoward incident happens during the hours of the band.
The Leaders of the 5 NGO’s appeal to the Headmen of all villages in EJHD, colleague NGO’s and the public of East Jaintia Hills District to fully support the bandh this time also as what they had done in the past. They also appeal to the public of our neigbourhood states in North East India to extend their support towards them in this bandh as it not only for the interest of the people of EJHD but also of the other North Eastern states of India.
The leaders of the 5-NGO also threatens that if this time the concerned authorities is not listening towards our demand, we will intensify our agitation with series of rigorous agitionational programme in the near future.(SP News)
