Jowai, April 30: In today’s meeting in between the leaders of the Jaintia NGOs- SRS-EJH, AJYWO-CGB, KSU-JHDU, HNYF-EJZ and FKJGP-KC and the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District, Mr WR Lyngdoh in his office chamber, the DC has promised to the NGOs to start repairing the dilapidated NH 44 by tomorrow itself. In view of this promise, the 5 NGOs have decided to suspend this time all its agitation programmes.
The DC of EJHD also told the leaders of the 5 NGOs that in this connection, an amount of Rs. 5/- crores had been released by the NHAI to the state PWD (Roads) as the first installment out of the total sanction of Rs. 24/- crores sanctioned to repair the NH 44.
“As the government has promised us today to repair the NH 44 from tomorrow onwards, therefore, we have decided to suspend all our agitation programmes for the time being but we will see, if the government will not keep its promise, we will never listen to their sweet words anymore but to go on with our harsh rigorous agitational programmes within these few coming days” said the leaders of the 5 NGOs.(SP News)
