Meghalaya CM Inspects Shillong International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture

Shillong, April 26: The Chief Minister Mr Conrad Sangma today visited the construction site of the Shillong International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture (SICPAC) along with the minister for Arts and Culture Shri A.L. Hek for an inspection of the work progress. Speaking to the small gathering the Chief Minister said that the Govt. will ensure smooth progress of the work so as to enable the project to be completed within the stipulated time.

The Project when completed will act as an International convention centre with state of the art facilities for hosting mega cultural events like Music, Theatre, Dance, Film Festivals, etc. The complex located at Mawkasiang in the New Shillong Township, will house two international standard auditoria with a seating capacity of 1750 and 612 and a smaller theatre complex with an approximate seating capacity of around 325.

The front of the complex is designated for a 15,000 capacity open Air Concert Area. The SICPAC will function as a training centre offering employable skill development courses in art, music, films and television and multimedia for the youth of Meghalaya and the North Eastern Region.

Others present at the inspection were Mawryngkneng MLA Mr David Nongrum, Mr P.S. Dkhar D.C. East Khasi Hills, Smt. M.W. Nongbri Director of Arts and Culture and other Govt. officials.The state of the art facility is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 151.33 Cr and targeted for completion by the end of 2018.
