Shillong, March 23: Sport and Youth affair minister Mr Zenith Sangma in his reply to the question asked by Mr Ardent M Basaiawmoit, said that the Indian Olympic Association has sent the letter to the state government on the 20th of this month confirming that National Games 2022 will be held in Meghalaya, the approval for this was given by the IOA on the 27th Dec 2016.
The minister said that, it has to sign the contract, with the IOA, the MOA and the state government, and the disciplines that will be held in the National Games is likely around thirty disciplines but this is not final. The Government has to form various committees in order to run this National Games.
Sport and Youth Affair minister said that the biding process for this national games is five cores, the MOA has given only Rs.50 lakh and the remaining amount of Rs.4.5 cores will be paid after signing the final contract.
The Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, adding to the reply given by the Sport and Youth Affair minister, he said “ I Congratulate the sport Department and the Meghalaya Olympic Association” who successfully able to bid for this National Games is a pride for the state.
On the doubt raise by some members in the floor of the house, the Chief minister said that it is time to learn for the past, five years from now, there is enough time, what is need is to fine resources, the chief minister said when extra ordinary measure arises, citing the example of the Manipur government employees they all contribute by deducting one day cut from their salary.
The Chief Minister said, “ Working has to start from today, the government want to hold this National Games since it coincide when the state celebrate its golden jubilee of attaining statehood of fifty years. Holding this National Games is a price to the state. On the Games Village the chief minister said this infrastructure will be revenue earning asset to the state in future.
