MeghalayaLibrary Association observed Librarian’s Day

Shillong, Aug 17: The Meghalaya Library Association (MLA) in order to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, celebrated National Library Day or Librarian’s Day on the 12th of August, 2014 in the seminar hall of Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong. Dr. A. K. Nongkynrih, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, NEHU, Shillong graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

In his speech the Chief Guest, lauded the initiatives taken by the association since inception and stressed upon the need to uplift the association through various activities that should begin at the school and community level. He opined that only libraries can play an important role to build the foundation and raise the intellectual level of an individual. Others who spoke on the occasion includes Smti C. Khonglah, one of the founder member of the association and Ms. A.C. Marbaniang, Assistant General Secretary. The entire function was moderated by Shri F. R. Sumer, President of the association.

The programme was also attended by college and school librarians and other prominent  senior library professionals of the state including Dr. (Mrs.) I. Majaw, Former University Librarian, NEHU, Shillong and Dr. Bikika Laloo, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, NEHU, Shillong.(SP News)
