Militant in Garo Hills released Ali a driver after six days in their captivity

 

Tura, July 20: Abducted driver of a private vehicle from Assam’s
Dhubri, Ansari Ali was released yesterday near Dalu in West Garo
Hills.
Ali, 35 was abducted from Baromile, about 25 km from Tura a week ago.
Police said that Ali was released by the abductors. The victim was
beaten up badly, while he was held captive for six days.
“We received a call from the kidnappers, who said that they would
release Ali, so we came to pick him up yesterday”, said a relative,
who did not wished to be quoted.
The suspected militants had sought a ransom of Rs. 10 lakh for his
release. “Ali frequents Garo hills with customers, so the kidnapper
thought that he was wealthy businessmen. We managed to convince them
(abductors) that he was a driver and we would not be able to pay any
ransom”, said Ali’s elder brother.
He added, “The abductors verified his identity and finally decided to
release him. We are happy that he has returned home unharmed”.
Police had continued their search operation but could not trace Ali’s
whereabouts.(SP News)
