Motorcycle stolen from Meghalaya smuggle to Bangladesh, one arrested

Shillong, November 26: The Border Security force showing it’s alertness on the international border, apprehended one person with motorcycle. The BSF troops deployed at Baghmara, South Garo Hills district, saw a person moving in suspicious manner with a Hero Splender bike. The troops challenged him to stop and rushed towards the spot and apprehended him.

Later he was identified as Battle M. Sangama 35 years resident of Dasanggre, under  Baghmara police station of South Garo Hills District Meghalaya. During questioning he confessed that he was trying to smuggle the said bike to Bangladesh.

It is to mention that the rate of bikes in Bangladesh is much higher as compared to India. Smugglers after picking up the bikes from Indian territory smuggles to Bangladesh and fetch handsome money. The bike engine two stroke is also used to improvise local boats for various purposes.

In another incident the BSF troops deployed at Silkigiri, South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya apprehended two Indian nationals namely Rakne Th. Marak and Tilsan Momin Rang Silkigri, Ps- Chokpot, Distt- South Garo Hills Meghalaya and one country made 12 bore Gun and camouflage cloth also recovered from their possession.

In addition the BSF troops seized 128 Cattle, approx. 117 Cft Wooden logs, Liquor 786 bttls, Wooden Boat 06 Nos,  3800 Nos bamboo and other contraband items worth more than 23.5 Lacs, while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh on the International Border along Meghalaya during last two weeks in more than 71 incidents. Apprehended person and seized items handed over to the concern department for further legal action.
