People from outside the NE are getting employment locals are debarred:Dohling

Shillong, September  05: A new organization has been formed christened the National Association of Postal Employee Union (NAPE) here on Monday.

Informing this, Simonn Peter Dohling, Division Secretary of newly formed NAPE said that the Union is also affiliated to Federation of National Postal Organisation (FNPO), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and UNI Global Union.

The Union has been formed with its President Desmond N Nongkhlaw, Dohling as Divisional Secretary, Barnsfield Kharbithai as Treasurer and 12 office bearers including 50 members.

The objective in forming the Union is to look after the welfare of the employees especially in the northeastern region.

Speaking to reporters, Dohling said, “We have observed that in contrast with other states, in Meghalaya the local MLAs and MPs does not support the various issues and grievances of the employees.”

Citing an example, he said for instance the Khasi language should be a mandatory while appearing for any exams.

“Many people from outside the NE are getting employment while the locals from the NE are being debarred from getting a job,” he said.

He also felt the need to create a separate Postal Division for entire Garo Hills and creation of post of Superintendent of Post Office, Garo Hills Division for better administration and welfare of staffs.

The Union has demanded the immediate filling of all the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS), of Postman and MTS posts in Meghalaya Division and the entire North Eastern Circle.

Dohling informed that the Union will soon send a letter to the Governor of Meghalaya to apprise him on the grievances faced by them.

He said there is also a need to continue with the Hill Compensatory Allowance (HCA) for Northeastern Circle.
