Shillong, February 01: The police of South Garo Hills District has raided several hideout of the militant outfit as a consequent to the abduction of Four Civilians from Kolapara area in the early morning of 22.01.2017, Police Search Operations were launched. Continuous raids were being conducted for the safe release of the abducted victims.
The police on 27.01.17 one of the victims Shri Nilip Ch. Momin, 27 years of Williamnagar who was a driver of coal truck bearing registration no ML07B 3172 was released from captivity without any ransom.
In the mean time, ASAK C-in- C Reding T Sangma had demanded huge ransom from the family members of the victims. Reding had deputed one of the ASAK cadres, Nikseng D Shira, 22 years of Gaonbari village under remote Rongara Police station for collection of the ransom money while the victims were still in captivity.
Baghmara Police Special Cell identified this cadre and a Special Police Team from Tura nabbed him red handed, recovered and seized the ransom money just after it was received near Tura Town. It was this cadre who had collected ransom and extortion money on behalf of ASAK on many other earlier occasions.
On further leads provided by the arrested cadre, focused search operations were launched and the abductors released all of the remaining three victims in a hurry without any ransom being paid.
Victims were released in the night of 30.01.2017 somewhere between Dumnikura and Ramchengga village in jungle area. Once the victims were got released safely, and on the basis of available inputs, District Police Teams from South Garo Hills conducted a series of raids in the intervening night of 31.01.17 – 01.02.17
The police has arrested three ASAK cadres who were involved in various capacities in the recent abductions, they are Sahid Ch Marak, 26 years of Chigichakgre, Lamingstone Ch. Sangma, 29 years they are from Chokpot under Chokpot Police station and Jainish R Marak, 29 years of Mindikgre under Baghmara police station all the three are from South Garo Hills District. Many other underground and overground cadres have been identified and Police Operations are intensified to nab all of them. Special mechanisms have also been put in place to avoid and prevent any further abduction.
In the meantime, on a tip off, Nongalbibra Police raided Gare ‘Nawak village in the wee hours of 01.02.17 and arrested one Herod R Marak, 32Years . He has been working for GNLA for quite sometime. He has not only been identifying victims for extortion but has also been collecting Extortion money on behalf of GNLA. Recently he had been especially deputed by GNLA C-in-C Sohan D Shira and a junior member, Baltush, to keep an eye upon ongoing Police Operations and Police Movements so as to plan an attack upon moving Police teams by the GNLA.
