Shillong, July 03: A special patrolling party of BSF troops deployed at Mahadev, South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, apprehended 13 Bangladeshi nationals while they were infiltrating from Bangladesh into Indian territory.
During search party recovered Indian Currency Rs 5,000/- and two Mobile Phones with BD SIM from their possession. After questioning, they were identified as namely,Anjan Sarkar, Smti Savita Sarkar, Sujeet Sarkar seven years old , Gopal Bhaumik,Smti Shifali Bhaumik , Pujan Bhaumik , Athir Das , Smti Nioji Das , Bindu Lal , Niranjan Mondal , Dulal Sarkar , Akash Sarkar , Shabuddin Sarkar all are the resident of Village Anandpur,of Kalmakanda police station District,Netrakona, Bangladesh.
Out of 13 apprehended Bangladeshis, 12 are Hindus. After the recent atrocities over Hindus in Bangladesh it appears to be a case of migration of Hindus who are in minority there. In the wake of recent terror attack in Dhaka, BSF in Meghalaya has also augmented its manpower at border keeping in view the possibilities of illegal migration and trans-border movement. The security agencies in Bangladesh have also launched ops along some border areas. After these ops some elements may attempt to escape from Bangladesh to hide in forested areas in India.
Border Security Force of Meghalaya Frontier has also stepped up extra vigil and intensified operations on the international Border to check illegal infiltration/exfiltration and other crimes across the border after the recent killing in Bangladesh. The apprehension of twelve Bangladeshis also suggests the pressure Hindus facing in Bangladesh. Apprehended Bangladeshi Hindus have confessed that they were going to Cooch Behar to meet relatives but were willing to stay put there only.
Sh P. K. Dubey, Inspector General Border Security Force Meghalaya has also discussed the security situation in Meghalaya with DGP Meghalaya, especially the situation in Garo Hills. Both BSF and Police will co-ordinate actions against anti national elements.
Apprehended persons and along with seized items handed over to police for further legal action.
