Shillong, September 26:Shillong Lajong Football Club played out a 1-1 draw against Three Star Club, Nepal in the ongoing Bordoloi Trophy played on Sunday at the Nehru Stadium, Guwahati. With this draw, Lajong have advanced to the semi finals of the tournament to be played on 27or 28th of September 2016.
It was an entertaining match today as both teams were the strongest in Group A. Both teams started off well in their attacking style football and had good chances early on. It was Lajong who broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, courtesy a goal from Milan Basumatary.
Three Star Club had a great chance to equalise after a penalty was awarded against Lajong in the 35th minute from a handball in the box. However the penalty taken was not converted as it went wide. Few minutes later, Lajong had a great chance to double the lead after Joseph took a shot but the ball hit the post. The First half ended 1-0 in favor of Lajong.
The second half was similar to the first as both teams were attacking well. Three Star were pressing forward and putting pressure on the defenders and they eventually equalised in the 60th minute. Lajong had many opportunities to put the game to bed but their chances were not converted. The match winner could not be decided after 90 minutes as the match ended at 1-1.
Lajong are placed on 2nd position in Group A and will play top placed team in Group B consisting of East Bengal, Sikkim United, ASEB and Bongobir Ogragami Club.
