Shillong Lajong FC Beat Zo United 2-1 in the ongoing Independence Day Cup in Aizawl

Shillong August  06:  Shillong Lajong FC Youngsters showcased yet another dominating performance to top the Group B in the ongoing Independence Day Cup in Aizawl. Lajong won by 2-1 against Zo United FC today at the AR Ground.

Samuel Lalmuanpuia scored the two goals for Lajong while Sawmtea netted for Zo United.For this game, Lajong FC Head Coach Thangboi Singto started with Phurba (GK), Nim Dorjee, Sandeep Singh, Pritam Kumar, Joe, Jacob, Hardy Nongbri, Redeem Tlang, Bipin Singh, Samuel Lalmuanpuia and Milan Basumatary.

After a goalless first half, both teams continued to press forward on many occasions with the intent to take all three points from the match. It was only in the 70th minute that home side, Zo United FC broke the deadlock when Sawmtea found the net, scoring a fine shot.

But after conceding the goal, Lajong youngsters shocked their opponents as they started to make good and very quick moves, in front of goal. They continued to add immense pressure on Zo United backline and finally found their breakthrough when Samuel Lalmuanpuia levelled the score 1-1 in the 74th minute. As the game was approaching to its final minutes, Samuela struck again in the 86th minute, ensuring three full points for the Reds.

With this win, Lajong have sealed their place in the semi-finals of the Independence Day Cup from Group B after the team topped the group with 9 points from three matches. The team will play their last group match against Dinthar FC on the 9th August at 12pm.
