Speaker Mr. Thomas inspected the progress of the construction of the new Assembly building

Shillong, March 08: The Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Shri. Thomas A Sangma, today inspected the progress and chaired a review meeting regarding the ongoing construction of the New Assembly Building at Mawdiangdiang.

Present at the meeting were Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, along with Power Minister AT Mondal, PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak, Contractor, Design Associates, and officials from various line departments.

Following the thorough inspection and review meeting, the  Speaker expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the construction work. He emphasized the objective of completing the building within the current year, with an optimistic outlook towards holding a session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in the New Assembly Building within the same timeframe.

However, the Speaker underscored the importance of maintaining safety standards and ensuring the quality of work without compromising on safety measures. He assured that while striving to meet deadlines, no undue pressure would be placed on the contractor and design associates that could compromise safety protocols.

In response to queries, the Speaker shared that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar have also expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the construction work.

Furthermore, the  Speaker informed that all the necessary materials for the main central hall have been procured, expressing optimism for the smooth progress of the project.
