State Police arrested 9 militant from ASAK Groups from Williamnagar

Tura, July 8: Meghalaya police today arrested 9 cadres of the Achik
Songna Achakpakiga Kotok (ASAK)  from the towns of Williamnagar and
Rongjeng in East Garo Hills.
A small amount of arms and ammunition were recovered from them. Two
of the 9 ASAK cadres caught were Area Commanders of the outfit.
East Garo Hills SP Davies Marak said, “We received a tip off about the
presence of three members of the outfit near the Williamnagar Forest
Gate. Our team went and nabbed them from the spot. Upon interrogation,
he revealed that there were another two cadres in the Williamnagar
Bazar area, possibly serving demand notes. They too were nabbed”.
“Again, these two then revealed that there was another member of the
outfit in the Chidekgre area of Williamnagar, whom we then nabbed. He
then revealed that an Area Commander and two more cadres were
travelling on the road towards Rongjeng. Our police team caught them
in Rongjeng after lying in wait for  them. A total of nine members
were caught in the district”, he said.
The police team recovered arms and ammunition from them along with
knives and demand notes of the ASAK group. A total of 3 automatic
pistols, 2 knives, 25 rounds of bullets, mobile phones, SIM cards,
wireless set, demand notes and some money were recovered.
The arrested cadres arrested from Williamnagar have been identified as
Rikran Momin, Sabat Marak, Selbi Arengh, Isak Sangma, Walman Sangma
and Merak K Sangma (Suangre). Suangre, who is a GNLA deserter and
belonged to the 4th batch is the eastern Area Commander for ASAK.
The cadres arrested from Rongjeng have been identified as Pagal Sangma
(Balwa), Ninibirth Sangma and Dinesh Ch Marak (Blackboard). Blackboard
is the commander of both the Operation Command and the Special Command
of the militant outfit.
“We had a very valuable tip off due to which we were successful in
nabbing all none of them within a day”, he added.(SP News)
