The Bangladeshi cattle smuggler caught in BSF net at Gunjangpara in SWGH district

Shillong, April 19: This time smuggler failed to give a slip and landed in the net of the BSF troops deployed at Gunjangpara, South West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. On a tip off, BSF troops apprehended  one Bangladeshi cattle carrier namely Md. Rubal Rana 19 years from Bangladesh alongwith cattle, while he was ex-filtrating to Bangladesh from Indian territory.

The apprehended person revealed that the cattle were brought from Purakhasia Market, South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya and were supposedly being handed over to cattle smuggler in Bangladesh. He also revealed that he works only as carrier and earns Rs.1,000/- as haulage. Bangladesh economy to a great extent is dependent on beef and leather exports which are mainly dependent on the cattle brought in from India illegally. The cattle of Bangladesh is not enough to sustain demand of their industry.

The Meghalaya border which was not so prone to cattle smuggling has shown tremendous rise in recent past. However, the BSF troops are playing a vital role in preventing smuggling of these cattle. The BSF has been making sincere efforts to prevent the smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh. There has been sizeable number of cattle seizure in the bordering area of Meghalaya now, since few days.

Similarly, in two more incidents the BSF troops deployed in Umsyiem and Pyrdwah East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya seized Sari 719 Nos, Shirt clothes 320.5 Mtrs and Betel Nut 2275 Kgs total worth more than Rs. 13 Lacs while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh.

The BSF has seized 66 Nos cattle, and contraband items worth more than Rs. 27 Lacs, while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh on the International Border along Meghalaya during last three days.

Apprehended person and all the seized items handed over to concerned department for further legal action.
