The BSF seized huge quantity of Dry Pea in the border with Bangladesh in WJH District

Shillong, Feb 23:  In the wee hours of 22nd Feb 2022, troops of 97 Bn BSF under Meghalaya Frontier seized 07 vehicles loaded with huge quantity of dry pea in the bordering area of West Jaintia Hills. The seized consignment worth more than rupees 50 lac was accumulated on the Indian side of Border taking benefit of darkness and dense vegetation.

Besides the dry pea, 07 drivers found on the spot, facilitating such an illicit act were also detained by BSF and handed over to PS- Umkiang, West Jaintia Hills for further disposal. Surge in dry pea smuggling from Bangladesh to India has been remained a worrying issue since 2019.

Although BSF showing extreme dedication seized more than 1300 Ton of dry pea amounting Rupees 12 crore in last three years. BSF handed over the seized dry pea to local Customs office. BSF official assured to keep such efforts continue in future also and remain committed to make International Borders crime and smuggling free.
