The BSF to train Meghalaya youth from border District under skil development

Shillong, August 13: In an effort to enhance better career opportunities on the border area  the Border Security Force in collaboration with Meghalaya State Skill Development society (MSSDS) organized an orientation programme on skill development of the unemployed youth of the border area at Dawki  today.

The programme was attended by about approximate 100 youths from bordering districts of East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya. The youth were introduced and oriented about skill development in various trades like electrician, vehicle mechanic, welding, hospitalities, industrial tailoring, personality development in BPO etc.

Most of the candidates have been intimated about the date and schedule of training/course by project implementation agencies; like Don Bosco Technical Institute, SS Netcom, Infrastructure Leaving and Financing Services ( ILFS) and North Eastern Security Academy (NESA). After training, the charges of which will be borne by the MSSDS, trained/skilled unemployed youth will be offered employment in different reputed national industries, BPO and factories.

Widespread unemployment and under-employment have been two major challenges prevailing in the society in bordering areas of the Meghalaya, which many of the times leads them to join illegal ways of earning money or indulge in criminal acts.

Therefore, alleviation of poverty and removal of unemployment have been the major objectives of this programme. Skilled manpower can give productivity and can reduce poverty. Skill development is a bridge between education, training and production/work environment.

Education is about developing a person’s potential, helping him to discover the abilities that he has and giving him the tools to use them feels BSF. Education imparts knowledge, skills and attitude for application to life. Training refers to imparting specific practical skills, to be used for specific and limited purpose. Training imparts skills, knowledge and attitude for direct application to a task or job.

Skills development is in relation to work environment. The mission of the programme is to enhance the ability of the under-educated and under-skilled students to become self-employed, find meaningful work and continually upgrade their competency stated Shri P K Dubey, Inspector General, BSF, Meghalaya Frontier.

The programme was presided over by Sh Sultan Ahmad, DIG, SHQ BSF Jowai with other BSF Officers and  eminent persons.
