The Chief Minister Dr Mukul inaugurated Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division today

Tura, April 24: Fulfilling the long pending aspiration of the people of Raksamgre – Tikrikilla areas of the extensive West Garo Hills district, Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma today inaugurated the newly created Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division amidst fanfare and jubilation at an impressive function attended by over 5000 people at Raksamgre playground.

While addressing gathering The Chief Minister Dr Mukul congratulated the leaders and the people of the area who worked hard to ensure creation of this new civil sub-division and dedicated it to the people expressing hope that the new civil sub-division would facilitate all round development of all the people in the region. He justified the creation of a civil sub-division at Raksamgre considering its remoteness from the district headquarters in Tura and the existing Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, which caused a lot of difficulty to the people of the area.

The Chief Minister said that in the past seven years the government has come up with a number of developmental programmes. However, the vastness of certain areas make it is difficult for the implementing agencies and officials to make the development programmes reach the targeted population and therefore in order to ensure public convenience and better administration the government has created new sub-divisions, C&RD blocks and new police stations, he added.

Dr Mukul called upon the people of the area to extend their full cooperation to the administration of the new civil sub-division so that they can reap full benefit of this development process. He also called upon the students and youth of the area to look at this opening as an opportunity for their future and work hard so that they can serve the people in their own area as administrators and officers.

Stating that the momentum of development is faster in Meghalaya compared to other states Dr. Sangma informed the gathering that the agenda of the government was that in the next 15-18 years Meghalaya should become the state where every citizen would have a sense of wellbeing, adding that the winds of development was being spread to every nook and corner of the state.

On the occasion the Chief Minister also felicitated three nokmas of the area who donated their lands for construction of the new civil sub-division complex. He also laid the foundation stones for construction of the District Seed Multiplication Farm by Agriculture department at Napakgre and for construction of Community Multi-Facility Centre under Special Plan Assistance under Border Areas Development Programme.

The historic occasion was also attended by Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh, Sporta & Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma, Parliamentary Secretaries Limison D. Sangma, Brigady N Marak, Michael T. Sangma, Cherak W. Momin, Noverfield Marak, Samuel M. Sangma and Sengnam Marak, Chairperson, State Development Reforms Commission Bluebell R. Sangma, DGP Dr. S.B. Singh, IGP Western Range, Mukesh Kr. Singh, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner i/c D.D.Shira, SDO Civil, Dadenggre Ram Kumar and hosts of district officials, local leaders, nokmas, senior citizens, teachers, students and members of Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division Demand Committee, among others.

The inaugural function was marked by colourful cultural dances presented by various communities residing in the area including the Garos, Rabhas, Hajongs, Boros and Nepalis besides performances by local choir and other renowned local artistes.

Earlier, Commissioner& Secretary, Home, E.P Kharbhih read out the government notification for creation of a new civil sub-division with Raksamgre as headquarter, comprising of villages under Tikrikilla and Dadenggre C&RD blocks and eight villages from Resubelpara block. The notification was handed over to the ADC in-charge of the Civil Sub-Division, Labenstone Ch. Marak, who would be assisted by EAC, Rosalind D. Shira.
