The Crowbrough Hotel yet into another controversy, MTDC appoint arbitrator

Shillong, February 02: The Crowbrough hotel is an eyesore to the people of the state which had enter into many controversy since the inception of this much awaited prestigious hotel of the state run by the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation.

This time again, Crowbrough hotel located in Police Bazar has again enter into another controversy, which forces  the MTDC to appoint an arbitrator to settle the dispute between the lessee, Lessly Shylla and the corporation for non completion of the project thought the agreement was sign in the year 2008.

Sources from the Corporation said that the MTDC has appointed Retired Justice B.K Sharma of the Guwahati Court as the arbitrator. The point raised by the MTDC is that Mr Lessly Shylla has not completed the project as per the agreement as agreed.

Sources told SP News Agency that the arbitrator has twice called both the party to appear before him, the first sitting was held on the 18th December 2016, the second meeting was held on the month of January 2017 and the third meeting will be in the month of March 2017.

As per the agreement, Lessly Shylla has to make the Crowbrough hotel functioning with one year from the day that the agreement was sign, but due to certain reason the MTDC has grant him for more time to complete the project but the lessee did not comply with which forces the MTDC for appoint an arbitrator to settle the dispute as per agreement.

As per the agreement the lessee has to pay to the MTDC for Rs.99.89 core for a period of 33 years, out of which the lessee has paid nearly ten cores to the corporation without completing the project. It’s up to the arbitrator now to decide in whose favour in this controversy.

To mention hear that the M/s A C Builders has first taken the contract to build this hotels in 1986 but the construction company has to file with the case to resolved the dispute, but letter the matter was settle out of court where the state government has to pay to the company Rs.1.2 cores to settle the dispute.

Them after taking position the building the MTDC has awarded the contract work to M/s  Astra Construction but this also has to settle the dispute outside court settlement where the state government has to pay Rs.1.2 cores to the company to get back the property, after settling the dispute the MTDC sing the agreement with Mr Lessly Shylla which landed out in the hnd of the arbitrator to settle the dispute.
