The Eastern Air Command conducts annual declamation contest

Shillong, July 22: A keenly contested Annual AFWWA  (Air Force Wives Welfare Association) Declamation Competition was held on Friday, 22 July 2016 at Headquarter Eastern Air Command, Upper Shillong for the wards of Air Force personnel of Eastern Region.  The winners of the contest Master Anurag Singh of Air Force Station Hasimara in Hindi Declamation and Miss Anjali Singh of Army Public School, Upper Shillong in English Declamation will now represent the EAC in AFWWA Central Declamation Contest to be held in New Delhi to commemorate the 84th Anniversary of the Indian Air Force.

The keenly fought contest saw a total of 40 participants from various parts of North East region representing 14 different Air Force Schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas under EAC. The contest was inaugurated by lighting of the traditional ‘Diya’ by the Chief Guest, Mrs Devika Hari Kumar, President AFWWA (Regional). The event was complemented by AFWWA Song by Sanginis and an impressive cultural show presented by students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Upper Shillong.

The jury comprised  four eminent personalities,  Dr. DK Choubey, HOD Hindi, North East Hill University, Prof Timothy Subba, HOD English, St. Anthony’s College,  Dr. S Lamare, Principal St. Edmund’s College and Dr. Filmeca Marbaniang, Asstt  Prof, Hindi Deptt, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong judged the competitors up in English and Hindi categories. Contemporary topics of the Declamation Contest evoked highly charged speeches from the contestants, making the task of the jury more challenging. While giving away prizes to the winners, Mrs Devika Hari Kumar expressed her happiness over the standard of public speaking and the competitiveness amongst the participants.
