Shillong, September 01: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) Mawlai Circle on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the assistant branch manager of United Bank of India (UBI) at Police Bazar (Khyndai Lad) demanding the immediate removal of the current branch manager of UBI Mawlai.
The Federation has also send a separate memorandum demanding the same to the Assistant General Manager and Chief Regional Manager Guwahati.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting with the assistant branch manager, FKJGP president Mawlai Circle, Marbud Dkhar said, “We have requested the assistant branch manager of UBI M. M Goswamie to remove the current branch manager of Mawlai, Manish Ojha and instead appoint a local resident of the state.”
He added, “We have also informed him that in Mawlai most of the residents are Khasi and Jaintia community unlike some constituencies like Laiumkhrah or Nongthymmai which has a mix population and Goswamie had assured us that he will take up the matter with officials at Guwahati.”
He informed that the Federation has set a 15 day deadline to UBI to remove the current branch manager at Mawlai and appoint a local resident of the state in his place.
“Most of the banks in Mawlai have tribal managers however there are new banks which have crop up like HDFC bank etc.. and have appointed non-tribal mangers,” he said adding the Federation request other banks in Mawlai to appoint tribal mangers.
“The various banks should keep in mind that most of the residents of Mawlai have had a lot of communication problems with past managers who are not familiar with the local; dialect, which have led to a lot of problems in daily affairs with the bank,” he said.
According to him, it would be convenient if local residents are made in-charge of the office as soon as possible.
He however said that if the bank can’t remove the current branch manager within 15 days as demanded then the Federation will look at other ways and means to deal with the issue.
