Shillong, July 07: The meeting was held between the KHADC and the Sirdar of the twenty seven sirdarship today at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall, after long deliberation they have to the conclusion that they will demand from the state government to squash all orders that claims as government land on sirdarship Elaka.
If there is any order promulgate by the government without consulting the sirdar or the District council, if such order are there this two should be done away with, they have also take the decision that all the sirdar should convince the meeting with their elaka to apprise about the issued.
They will also write to the Chief Minister of the state, to the Deputy Chief Minister, All ministers and MLA on the issued, and they will wait for the response from the government, but no time frame has been fixed.
Speaking to Media person after the meeting he said that land belong to the people, the state government and the District council has no power over the land, but going by the order of the state government , it appears that Sirdarship Elaka are government land.
The KHADC will also discuss this issued with the JHADC and the GHADC because the para 20 of the Sixth Schedule clearly mentaion that all the British territory except three wards know as European words, all should be with the jurisdiction of the District Council.
This issued crops up because of the state government acquired land at the Saitsohpen Sirdarship without consulting the Sirdar or the KHADC, after obtaining state hood the state government before acquiring any land in the Saitsohpen they seek the permission from the Sirdar and the KHADC but after 1982 the state government stop seeking permission from the sirdar and the KHADC.
The CEM said what is the different with the sirdarship of Saitsohpen and the others sirdarship if the government can do in Saitsohpen, the government they can do also in others Sirdarship. The KHADC is not opposing development but they were concern with the land holding system.
