The GSU alleged that Job-Reservation Policy violated in appointing Epidemiology in DHS

Shillong, December 08:  The President of the Garo Student’s Union (GSU) Mr  Tengsak G Mamoin has made a complaint to the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma that there is a violation of the Job-Reservation policy in appointing epidemiology in the health department.

With respects and in tandem with the matter stated may we, the GSU, approach the highest office of the state regarding the job appointment for the post of District Epidemiologists under Integrated Disease Surveillance Program conducted by DHS (MCH &FW).

The GSU said that it was  unfair that not a single Garo is appointed despite the fact that a qualified Garo candidate exist. This is a blatant disregard and violation of the Job Reservation Policy. In the Letter sent to the Chief Minister said that as  per  their  enquiry, application for the post was accepted till August 5th 2016, written exam was held on 19th Sept’16, interview was held on 23rd Sept’16 and results declared on 5th Dec’16 for the post of District Epidemiologist.

There were seven vacancies in Meghalaya and out of that three vacancies for the post existed in Garo Hills. Granted, there was only one Garo candidate who was qualified for the post but even that lone Garo was left out from occupying the post.

The GSU said that this  type of prejudice practiced that many qualified Garos are denied the opportunity even after hard earned degrees and expertise. This type of violation of rights to the Garo community must be corrected.

“We believe that your kind intervention on the matter would be very helpful for the people which would induce and ensure fair practices which are a right of every educated and qualified Garo. Every battle is hard earned and even this lone Garo candidate will in introspect go a long way in the battle for equality in Meghalaya and in India.
