Shillong, September 01: MDC of Mawhati constituency James Sylliang has threatened to file a complaint to the Ministry of Road and Transport and Highway government of India against any contractor who continues to carry out shabby construction work especially in his constituency.
This was revealed after Sylliang had filed a complaint against M/S Dhar Construction with the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ri Bhoi District, CP Gotmare and also to the Executive Engineer (EE) of PWD Umsning Division, concerning the shabby construction work on the RCC Bridge at Wahshang located near Pamlatar and Umtyrkhang village Ri Bhoi District.
Speaking to reporters Sylliang said, “I have apprise about the matter and submitted a complaint letter against the Dhar Construction which is overlooking the construction work of the RCC Bridge located near Pamlatar village to the DC in order of him to take appropriate action.”
He informed that the DC had assured him that the matter will be taken up seriously however at present he is still waiting for the report from the Public Work Department (PWD) on the collapse of the bridge.
In connection with the construction workers who had sustained injuries due to the collapse of the bridge, Sylliang said that the DC had made it clear that all the medical expenses of the labours should be incurred by the contractor.
He further urged the DC to take stringent actions in the future against contractors who over look the safety of the general public by carrying out their work in a shabby manner.
Meanwhile, in his meeting with the Executive Engineer (EE) of PWD Umsning Division the EE had assured Sylliang that the collapsed bridge will be reconstructed.
