The NBT will conduct a Certificate Course on Book Publishing at the NEC office

Shillong, November 13: The National Book Trust (NBT),Ministry of HRD,Govt of India in collaboration  with the North Eastern Council (NEC) would conduct a Certificate Course on Book Publishing from November 15 at Shillong. Classes of the course would be held at the NEC Secretariat Press Room at Nongrim Hills, Shillong. The NBT is holding such a course in Meghalaya’s capital  with NEC for the first time.

During the week-long course, the NBT has invited several prominent experts from across India to give guest lecture during the course. To name a few of the experts, Sridhar Balan would be conducting classes on Book Publishing as a Career. Balan has worked in well-known publishing houses such as Oxford University Press and Ratnasagar.

Other experts include, AK Sinha, a former Director in the Directorate of Printing, New Delhi,an expert in Printing Technology. Dr. Suresh Chand, who was a Special Officer in the HRD Ministry’s book promotion and copyright division and was instrumental in provision of ISBN throughout the Country, will conduct classes on copyright, IPR, ISBN and Book Promotion.

Well-known book designer, Subir Roy, former Art Director in Children’s Book Trust would conduct classes in book designing. Arunima Roy, formerly with Bloomsbury would be one of the other experts for the course, Manas Ranjan Mahapatra,Director,Information and PR, NEC said in a press release. Shri Narinder Kumar,Printing Technologist and Production Officer, NBT is coordinating the course.

NBT is an apex body and was established in 157 under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The objective of the NBT is to promote books and the habit of reading in the country.This Book Publishing Course  would not just help in furthering individual knowledge in book publishing, but those interested in taking a plunge in the challenging and interesting world of book publishing would also be greatly benefitted.

The unemployed youth from Meghalaya may build up capacity to take up Book Publishing as a Career. NBT has so far conducted over 100 such Certificate Courses throughout the Country.

As informed by Shri Narinder Kumar,Coordinator of the Course,Content of the course would include a brief introduction into the history of the publishing. Thereafter, classes would be held on business and finance of the publishing world,authorship,printing technology,book design and various aspects of Book Publishing.As the publishing world is undergoing tremendous changes, the course content would also include insight on electronic publishing (e-books), including phone and mobile publishing.

The course is being conducted for students, professionals and also those who are interested in book publishing, especially those interested in writing and reading. NEC  is facilitating this course for capacity building of the youth mass and professionals as well as to tap new opportunities for the North East.
